When crafting neolithic arrows or atlatl darts replicas I always follow these three rules:

Exclusive use of traditionnal materials

Vegetal fibers, dogwood, pseudosasa, natural feathers, sinew ligatures, hide glue, reindeer antlers and flint are the only materials used during the making of these arrows.

Balance and functionnality

I make every arrow or dart as if I was about to use it in a shooting competition... and I am a former European Champion (European Prehistoric Weapons Shooting Contest).
The shafts are perfectly heat straightened, feathers are perfectly aligned, balance, weight, length and flexibility are thouroughly checked at every stage.

Aesthetics

A functionnal item can also be beautiful: shafts are sanded and and the points, be they made for real hunting or target shooting, are lovingly pressure flaked (flint, obsidian) or sanded (reindeer).

Neolithic arrows

Shafts are made of dogwood, a wood that is both flexible and hard, and has been used in Europe since the Middle Ages for arrows and crossbow bolts.

Atlatl darts

Much longer than traditional arrows (about 3 times the length of the atlatl), my atlatl darts are made with Pseudosasa Japonica, also called"arrow bamboo" ou Batuke, traditionally used for japanese arrows.

These darts feature a dogwood foreshaft and a penetrating point made of reindeer antler.

The duck feathers, are very similar, though much bigger than standard arrow feathers.
